Laser Procedures
In the past decade, advances in laser technology have taken place that now permit use of medical lasers for a variety of cosmetic applications. A number of beneficial effects of laser energy are now used for improvement in the appearance of aging skin. Common examples include use of laser procedures in wrinkle reduction, skin tightening, ablation of spider veins, and laser hair removal. Laser procedures are increasingly being used as alternatives or adjuncts to classical cosmetic surgical procedures to improve results. The most common use of medical aesthic lasers is laser hair removal. Lasers may act selectively by wavelength absorption, or may cause a more general thermal action to alter the character of various target tissues.
Our laser technicians are certified to use the GentleYAG® laser system.
Spider Veins
Millions of women are bothered by spider veins - those small yet unsightly clusters of red, blue or purple veins that most commonly appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. In fact, it's estimated that at least half of the adult female population is plagued with this common cosmetic problem.
For years, many plastic surgeons have treated spider veins and some larger varicose veins with sclerotherapy. In this simple procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and fade from view. Although painful and requiring multiple treatments, sclerotherapy may remedy the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins, including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps. Another exciting way to eliminate many cutaneous vascular lesions such as spider veins, cherry spots (angiomas), and vascular birthmarks is laser ablation. A wide variety of vascular skin lesions can be easily and permanently removed in this manner. Typically, one to three treatments are required. The treatments are well-tolerated and affordable.
Laser Hair Removal - Kiss Unwanted Hair Goodbye!
An exciting new application of medical lasers is permanent laser hair removal. Several types of lasers are useful for permanent hair removal, but the most commonly used are the alexandrite and NDYAG lasers. In these procedures, the hair-producing capability of the follicle is destroyed by laser energy. Multiple treatments (usually 6-10) over a period of several months are typically required. Results depend somewhat on the skin type, laser used, and color and density of hair growth. With each successive laser treatment, more hair follicles in the active growing phase are destroyed, reducing the number of hairs that regrow. Virtually any area of the body can be treated. Daily shaving, painful waxing, electrolysis, ingrown hairs and razor burns/bumps can be a thing of the past!
Wrinkle Reduction and Laser Skin Tightening
Medical lasers for skin tightening are being increasingly used to improve the appearance of the aging face and for wrinkle reduction. Laser skin tightening with the GentleYAG® laser is proven to be an effective alternative to surgery for fighting wrinkles and rejuvenating the skin. This safe and non-invasive treatment will encourage the stimulation and formation of new collagen resulting in smoother, younger looking skin. We recommend 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart with a maintenance treatment once every 12 to 18 months.
