Rhinoplasty Can Correct the Appearance of the Bridge of the Nose

A Rhinoplasty or a nose job can improve the appearance of your nose, making it look more attractive and increasingly compatible with the rest of your face. If you are unhappy with the shape/size of your nose, a rhinoplasty could be all you ever need.

This surgical procedure can even improve nasal function and cure existing breathing problems. Why have a rhinoplasty performed in the first place? If you want to enhance the appearance and functionality of your nose, rhinoplasty is the procedure for you.

Are you A Good Candidate for Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is only performed on people whose noses are finished growing. It’s typically safe to undergo when a patient is 18 years old. Individuals wanting to have this treatment performed should also be in good general health and preferably non-smokers.

You need to be ready to provide your doctor with your up-to-date medical background and be ready to follow any instructions given to you.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

A rhinoplasty procedure may involve the removal of the nasal hump, reshaping/resizing nostrils, altering the tip of the nose, and increasing/decreasing the nose’s projection and size. It is an outpatient procedure and takes anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete.

Rhinoplasty has two predominant variants – open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Incisions are made within the nostrils in closed rhinoplasty. It allows for less room to effect changes. In the open rhinoplasty method, incisions are made across the tissue between the nostrils as well as within. These incisions typically heal quickly and are almost invisible.

Other than open and closed rhinoplasty surgeries, there are also two other types – a revision rhinoplasty and a liquid rhinoplasty. A revision rhinoplasty is carried out on an individual who has already undergone a rhinoplasty procedure before but isn’t satisfied with the results.

A revision rhinoplasty is an intricate process and should only be performed by the most experienced of surgeons.

A liquid rhinoplasty is non-surgical in nature. Hyaluronic fillers are injected onto the patient’s nose to change its shape and size without carrying out any invasive surgery. It is also performed with the patient awake.

Rest and Recovery

Anyone who opts for a rhinoplasty procedure can expect a moderate level of discomfort after the procedure, but this is temporary. If it becomes too much to handle, your doctor can help by prescribing medications to help you feel more comfortable during your recovery period.

There will most probably be under-eye bruising and the patient will have to wear nose-splints for at least a week after the surgery. Patients should keep away from any strenuous physical activity for a minimum of two to three weeks and avoid wearing glasses.

A minor change to your nasal structure can change the entirety of your facial appearance. As a result, rhinoplasty is not to be taken lightly. Always ensure that the doctor you trust to perform the procedure is experienced and well aware of any prior medical conditions you have.

Your first step to undergoing this surgery is scheduling a consultation with a skilled plastic surgeon. During this time, you can talk about your expectations and ask any questions you have about the surgery. Your doctor will assess your nose and create a customized plan to help you achieve the results you desire.
