How do I choose the right size for my breast augmentation?
Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc). The same size and amount of implant will look very different on each individual. It’s important to discuss expectations and desired results with Dr. Wagner so he can help you decide what is right for you.
We recommend you try on sizer test implants so you can see what a certain amount of volume looks like on your frame. We provide sports bras for this; you are also welcome to bring or wear your own. It’s helpful to have a couple of different tops so you can see what the implant sizers look like with a looser top versus a more fitted top.
What are my projection and texture options?
Silicone implants enable a full range of projection and texture choices. For projection, we have:
- Low
- Low Plus
- Moderate
- Full
- Extra Full
And for texture, you can choose between:
- Responsive - Softest
- SoftTouch - “Goldilocks”
- Cohesive - Firmest
How often do breast implants need to be replaced?
A common misconception is that breast implants need to be replaced or lifted every few years. This idea keeps many women from getting the procedure they want because they are worried about long-term costs and future surgeries.
Breast implants last longer than you may think, which means there is no reason to plan on having a major surgery every few years for the rest of your life. You should be aware that you may have one or two follow-up surgeries in your lifetime. It’s not a given, but it is better to be prepared for the possibility than to be surprised when you experience a complication or dissatisfaction with your implants.
When it comes to the “average lifespan” of implants, there are no guarantees. Some will last a lifetime, while others have complications within a few years. On average, the majority of implants last 10-20 years without complications. Recent FDA reports indicate that about 20% of women will have their breast implants repaired or replaced within 10 years of the original surgery. In most cases, breast implant results last a very long time.
