Wagner and Associates Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Kybella Treatment in Indianapolis
Kybella is a non-surgical injectable for reducing moderate to severe fat on the upper neck, otherwise known as a “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule which eats away at fat. When injected properly, all other cells are left healthy and intact. Using Kybella for treatment on areas other than the double chin is not approved or recommended.
At Wagner and Associates Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Consultant of Indianapolis we offer non-surgical double-chin reduction using Kybella.
What Is Kybella?
Kybella’s generic name is deoxycholic acid, and it is manufactured by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. It was approved by the FDA on April 29, 2015 after clinical trials.
Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps break down and absorb dietary fat.
Kybella is specifically used to improve the appearance and contour of a double chin by reducing moderate to severe submental fat (fat beneath the chin). It is not known to be safe or effective for use in areas outside the submental region.
What Kybella Brings to You
Treatment of double chin has traditionally involved surgery. Hardly any exercise could target submental fat effectively. Even dieting will not help in reducing double chins. Kybella, Deoxycholic acid works naturally to destroy fat cells, it is relatively safe. This is in contrast to liposuction, which is a surgical procedure that requires anesthesia, incisions, and downtime.
What to Expect After Your Kybella Treatment
There will be some swelling underneath the chin and along the jawline. This issue can take some time to subside. There may be some discomfort, but it can be managed with over-the-counter medication.
How Many Injections of Kybella is Required for a Treatment?
In general, patients will need a series of 12-20 injections per visit. A total of 3 visits might be required, with each visit spaced a month apart to allow the area to heal. Results may vary and some patients may require more or possibly fewer injections and total treatments. Dr. Wagner can let you know the expected number of treatments you may need during your initial consultation at our office in Indianapolis.
